Mint Chill Cigars · Beta

Help me break my cigar shop.

Use the site like a real customer (browse, buy, poke around) and tell me about anything that's broken, confusing, slow, or ugly. That's it. The list below is just ideas for what to try.

The essentials
Paying
No real money ever moves. Don't use your real card. When you reach the secure payment page, use test card 4111 1111 1111 1111, any future expiration, any 3-digit code, any ZIP. The payment page is our processor's own secure page, so it looks a little different from the rest of the site. That's expected.
The ID check
Before you reach the payment page, a popup asks you to verify you're 21+ with real personal info. That's a legit service tobacco shops must use, not a scam. Only once it passes are you sent on to pay.
Promo codes
BETATEST10 (reusable) and WELCOME15 (one use per person; a second try should fail)
Sales tax
Tax is worked out on the payment page, not in the cart, so the cart total looks lower than what you actually pay. That part is expected. What I want to know is whether the final total and your emailed receipt agree.
Emails
Everything from the beta site starts with [Beta] in the subject line. If one turns up without it, that's worth telling me about.

Things to try

Don't do all of these. Just pick whatever sounds like how you'd actually shop.

  • Create an account with email + password, or the Google button. You should get a welcome email.
  • Or don't. Browse and buy entirely as a guest, no account.
  • Buy something. A popup checks you're 21+ first, then you're taken to the secure payment page to enter the test card. An order confirmation email should follow.
  • Change your mind on the payment page. Hit cancel or back on the card page. You should land back on checkout with everything you typed still there (and no need to redo the ID check), ready to try again right away.
  • Close the ID-check popup, then start over. Close the 21+ popup (or step away for a few minutes and come back), then try to check out again. It should reopen cleanly and still work. The page should never get stuck spinning.
  • Follow an order after it ships. You should get a shipped email and then a delivered one, and the order should show a tracking timeline you can actually follow. A local delivery finishes with a photo of where it was left.
  • Mess with your cart: add, remove, change quantities, close the browser and come back. Totals should always be right.
  • Use the promo codes: check the discount math, try WELCOME15 twice (second time should politely fail), try a made-up code.
  • Cancel an order before it ships. You should get a cancellation email saying exactly how much came back, and the order should read cancelled in your history. After it ships, the cancel option should be gone.
  • Open an order in your history. The breakdown should add up: items, discount, shipping, sales tax, total. The status should tell you where the order actually is (processing, shipped, delivered), not just that the payment worked.
  • If I refund you something, either because you asked or because I'm testing, check the email and your order history. Refunds should be listed one by one with what they covered, and the amounts should match what you paid for those items.
  • Chat with an Expert: ask a question or request a refund on a shipped order, like a real customer would.
  • Check shipping options: local folks should see free 24-hour local delivery once the order is big enough; everyone else USPS with sane prices.
  • Planning an event? Try the catering page and send an enquiry as if it were real. Tell me what you'd have wanted to know that isn't there.
  • Sort and filter the shop. Narrow it down by wrapper, size or origin, sort a few different ways, and try a combination that should turn up nothing at all. Does what comes back match what you asked for?
  • The age check on your first visit should be hard to get past without saying you're 21. Try refusing it, and try coming back later.
  • Read the Smoker's Guide. Do the "shop this" links take you to products that match what you just read?
  • Guest first, account later: if you ordered as a guest, sign up afterward with the same email. Your old order should appear in your history.
  • Reset your password (non-Google accounts). Does the email arrive, and does the new password work?
  • Under 21? Try to buy and do the ID check honestly. It should stop you before you ever reach the payment page, and the order should clearly not go through.

While you're at it

  • Do at least some of it on your phone, and on a laptop if yours has a smaller screen. Most of this was built on a big monitor, so that is exactly where it's likely to look wrong.
  • Note anything confusing, slow, misspelled, or that just feels off. Those count as much as real bugs.
  • If nothing breaks, tell me the one thing you'd change anyway.

Thank you. Every confusing button you find now is a customer I don't lose later. - Allen
