Timing

Where It Fits in the Night

Most couples put us on after dinner. Here is how the options actually play out.

Before the ceremony

With the groomsmen

A small setup while everyone is getting ready and the photographer is working. Short, relaxed, and it produces some of the best photos of the day.

Cocktail hour

Alongside drinks

Works when cocktails are outdoors. Keep the selection mild and short, because guests have somewhere to be in forty minutes and nobody wants half a Churchill.

After dinner

The main event

Once toasts are done and the dancing starts. This is where a cigar table earns its place: guests drift outside anyway, and now there's a reason to stay and talk.

Late night

The last hour

A quieter close for the people still going. Often runs straight on from the after-dinner service rather than being booked separately.

Worth Knowing Early

Four Things to Sort Before You Book

  1. 1

Confirm the venue permits cigar smoking

Ask specifically about cigars, and about the outdoor area rather than the building. This is the one thing that can stop a booking outright, so settle it before anything else.

  2. 2

    Pick where the table goes

Somewhere guests already pass, like near the bar exit or the terrace doors. Tucked around a corner and it goes unused. It needs a little light if service runs past dark.

  3. 3

Plan the selection from your guest list

We work it out with you on the phone and agree a flat event fee. You only pay for the cigars your guests actually enjoy, settled at the end of the night.

  4. 4

Give us your planner or coordinator

We'll deal with them directly on setup timing and load-out. You should not be answering questions about a cigar table on your wedding day.

Couples Ask

Wedding Questions

When during the wedding does the cigar table work best?

Almost always after dinner, once toasts are done and the dancing has started. That is when guests drift outside anyway, and a cigar gives them a reason to stay and talk rather than leave early. Two to three hours is typical. Some couples also want a small setup during cocktail hour or for the groomsmen while they get ready. Both work, they just change the selection.

Do you coordinate with our wedding planner or venue?

Yes, and we prefer to. Give us your planner or coordinator as a contact and we will handle setup timing, placement and load-out directly with them so it is one less thing on your day. We arrive at least an hour before service starts.

What if our venue does not allow smoking?

Check before you book. It is the single most common thing that stops a cigar table. Many venues permit it outdoors, on a terrace, or in a designated area even when the building is non-smoking. Your service agreement asks you to confirm the venue permits it, because we cannot proceed if it does not.

How many cigars should we plan for?

A rough rule for a wedding is that a quarter to a third of adult guests will take one, and some will take a second later in the night. We will work the number out with you from your guest list and plan the selection around it. We would rather bring more and have you take the rest home than run out at 10pm.

Is a cigar table appropriate if most of our guests do not smoke?

It works better than couples expect. Most guests who take one are not regular smokers. It is a novelty and an excuse to stand outside with people they have not seen in years. That is exactly why we cut and light for everyone rather than leaving a box on a table: first-timers get steered to something mild that they will actually enjoy.

Check Your Date

Tell us the date and venue and we'll call you within one business day. Saturdays in the spring and autumn go first, so it's worth asking early.
